ALAUX Jean-Pierre

Jean Pierre Alaux was born on the 14th of November, 1925 in La Ciotat.
His father François Alaux was a painter as well. Since the beginning of the 18th century, the members of his family were painters or architects; Jean-Pierre is the seventh generation in recognition of which he was invited to appear on "Radioscopie" by Jacques Chancel in 1989.

From 1943 to 1949, he went to the National Superior School of Beaux-Arts in Paris. A pupil of "Beaux-Arts de Paris", he joined the studio of Jean Dupas, and began to exhibit in 1949.

His work is being shown in many Paris museums (Musée de la Marine, Musée d'Art Moderne, Musée de la Ville de Paris, etc) and he exhibits in the main famous shows (Salon de la Marine, Salon d'Automne, Salon des Comparaisons, etc).

His artwork is very eclectic, ranging from figurative to fantastic, from surrealism to symbolism. He paints, among other themes, mysterious women in enigmatic environments, responding to a metaphysical and abstract quest.
He is inspired by symbols of womanhood - water and the sea.
His art brings together all these styles and subjects and because of his own particular way of seeing life, he is able to create with them a special universe.
His paintings embellished the liners France, Mississipi and the aircraft carrier Foch.
A gold medallist of the "Salon des Artistes Français" at 26, the principle award of the time. He was made a painter to the French Ministry of Marine in 1975. He became Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1988 and
Peintre de l'Air et de l'Espace in 1993.

He has received many prizes and many French cities have given him medals or presented him as their guest of honour..
Many retrospectives on his work were organized from 1973 to 1997 in places such as at the Grand Palais in Paris in the City Hall of Lyon in France and over the world. ...
